Thursday morning begins the 2018 Greco-Roman World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. The most important dates on the calendar each year, just about everything throughout the season leads up to this one event.

The final phase of training for the USA Greco athletes has now been logged. When the World Team first arrived in Tata three three weeks ago, their workload was a lot lighter than at any point during the summer. The mornings were spent playing games (soccer, handball) and engaging in light drilling, while the afternoons were mostly designated as individual time, giving athletes the choice to lift, sauna, condition, or wrestle on their own.

For some wrestlers, the time spent in Hungary thus far hasn’t been a complete breeze. RaVaughn Perkins (72 kg, NYAC) has needed the extra work and Geordan Speiller (82 kg, Florida Jets) desired an increase in training intensity for himself. And as noted, the Americans had been participating in the international camp hosted by Hungary, meaning guys received additional foreign looks during workouts, although, that part of the training cycle has since concluded.

5PM’s official 2018 World Championships previews are nearly complete. There is only one left — 87 kg, 97 kg, and 130 kg — and that will be released on Wednesday prior to the Day 1 draw announcements.

SWEDEN!

Although this coming weekend belongs to the US Seniors, Saturday ushers in the 2018 Klippan Cup in Klippan, Sweden. Most of the US delegation will be arriving in Scandinavia by Wednesday, with several athletes and two-time Cadet World Team coach Lucas Steldt landing on Saturday.

As of now, live stream information is unavailable. We will still endeavor to provide results and recaps of the action, as well as any updates that come our way throughout the tournament.

Once the Klippan Cup is over, the US contingent will train in Sweden with a potential dual meet against host club Team Skåne Brottning potentially on the agenda. The tour concludes the very next weekend in Västerås with the massive Malar Cupen.
