Five, four, two. The only number missing is three, though that was taken care of in the number of bodylocks 2021 World bronze G’Angelo Hancock (97 kg, Sunkist, world #5, 5PM #1) executed to come away victorious Saturday night.

Bout at the Ballpark began at 6:00pm CT in Arlington, Texas and streamed live on FLOWrestling.

Hancock and Egyptian counterpart Ahmed Hassan comprised the only Greco-Roman match on the card, and the pair were tasked with opening the show on one of the two available mats. After a bit of preamble, both athletes started to check one another with more intent in the tie-ups. Hancock struck first when he was able to wrap around Hassan. The American then brought his hips in whilst planting his feet in position before hurling a four-point bodylock that elicited an enthused response from the crowd. A reset provided Hassan an opportunity to regain his bearings. A two-on-one targeting Hancock’s right arm delivered in a slightly unusual manner. Hancock posted on Hassan’s head with his far left arm — and Hassan smoothly ducked under and scampered his way to a takedown.

Ahead 4-2 to begin the second period, Hancock didn’t waste time seeking available lanes. He snugged tightly inside the pummel and, in a near instant, had returned to the bodylock position. Again in one motion with just a small adjustment, Hancock had Hassan in the air. The booming deposit registered five on the board, although Hassan did reverse to garner a point back in his favor. Still, the exchange brought in a haul of points that put Hancock only one more multi-point score away from ending the contest.

And he got it.

Following a reset, Hancock waded through the ties and confidently returned to his favorite lock. He hoisted Hassan up and over; instead of four points, the officials awarded two. Inconsequential. The match had reached its conclusion with Hancock the winner via 11-3 VSU.

Hancock, 24, had appeared in one other exhibition prior to Saturday night. In the fall of ’20, he squared off against eventual fellow ’21 World Team member Alan Vera (87 kg, NYAC, 5PM #2) on FLOWrestling’s Burroughs vs. Valencia card.
